📱 About Taste Diary
Taste Diary is a simple and private recipe management app. You can create and store your favorite recipes on your phone. The app also allows you to share recipes in two ways:
- Online sharing: Upload a recipe to our secure server and get a public link. Anyone with the link can view the recipe.
- Offline sharing: Share recipes directly with nearby devices using Bluetooth or WiFi — no internet needed.
The app also receives occasional announcements from the developer about updates and new features.
📋 1. What Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information needed for the app to function:
- Device model (e.g., Samsung Galaxy S23): Used to send you relevant updates and announcements (for example, a bug fix that only affects certain phone models).
- Anonymous device ID (FCM token): A unique identifier that helps us send notifications to your app. This ID cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Your recipes: The recipes you create are stored on your device. Only when you choose to share a recipe online, it is temporarily uploaded to our secure server.
We do NOT collect: Your name, email address, phone number, physical address, location, or any personal information that can identify you.
We do NOT track: Your location, browsing history, how you use the app, or any behavioral data.
🌐 2. Online Recipe Sharing
When you choose to share a recipe online:
- The recipe (title, ingredients, steps, and photos) is uploaded to Firebase Firestore (Google's secure cloud service).
- A unique public link is created. Anyone who has this link can view the recipe.
- The shared recipe does NOT contain your name, email, device info, or any personal information.
- You are in control: You decide which recipes to share. You can delete a shared recipe anytime — this removes it from the server.
📡 3. Offline Recipe Sharing (Nearby Devices)
You can share recipes directly with nearby devices without internet:
- The recipe is transmitted directly from your phone to the other person's phone using Bluetooth or WiFi.
- No internet required. No server involved. Your recipe never passes through any external service.
- Location permission: Android requires location access to discover nearby devices via Bluetooth/WiFi. Your actual location is never collected, stored, or transmitted.
- You choose exactly which recipe to share and with whom.
🔔 4. Admin Announcements
We may send you important notifications about the app:
- What we send: App updates, new features, important notices, and security information. No advertisements or spam.
- How it works: Your anonymous device ID is stored in Firebase Cloud Messaging to enable these notifications.
- Your control: You can disable notifications anytime from your phone's Settings → Apps → Taste Diary → Notifications.
📁 5. Where Your Data Is Stored
- Your private recipes: Stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to them.
- Recipes you share online: Stored on Firebase Firestore (Google Cloud) until you delete them.
- Your device information: Stored securely in Firebase to enable admin announcements.
- If you uninstall the app: All local recipes are permanently deleted. Your device ID is automatically removed from our system.
📸 6. Camera & Photo Access (Optional)
- Camera access: Used only when you tap "Take Photo" to take a new picture for a recipe.
- Gallery access: Used only when you select an existing photo from your device.
- Photos are stored locally with your recipe. When you share online, photos are uploaded with the recipe.
- You can deny these permissions — the app works fine for text-only recipes.
🔒 7. Permissions We Use
- Internet: For online sharing and receiving admin announcements.
- Location: Required only for offline sharing (to find nearby devices). Your location is never collected.
- Bluetooth & WiFi: Used for offline sharing between nearby devices.
- Camera & Storage: Optional — to add photos to your recipes.
🔄 8. Do We Share Your Data?
- With other companies? No. Never.
- With advertisers? No. We do not show any ads.
- When you share online: Your recipe becomes publicly accessible via a link (this is your choice).
- When you share offline: The recipe goes directly to the other person's phone.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade any data.
🔌 9. Third-Party Services
We use Google's Firebase services for essential app functionality:
- Firebase Firestore: Stores recipes you choose to share online. View Google's privacy policy
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM): Sends admin announcements. View Google's privacy policy
- Google Play Services (Nearby Connections): Enables offline sharing. View Google's privacy policy
We do NOT use: Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, AdMob, or any social media SDKs.
👶 10. Children's Privacy
Taste Diary is safe for all ages:
- No personal information is collected from anyone, including children under 13.
- No advertisements or inappropriate content.
- Sharing (online or offline) requires manual action by the user.
- Parents can feel confident letting children use the app.
🗑️ 11. How to Delete Your Data
- Delete a single recipe: Tap the delete button on any recipe in the app.
- Delete an online shared recipe: Use the delete option inside the app — this removes it from our server.
- Delete all local data: Go to Settings → Apps → Taste Diary → Storage → Clear Data.
- Uninstall the app: Removes all local recipes and preferences. Your anonymous device ID is automatically removed from our system.

🛡️ 12. Security
- Your private recipes stay on your phone, protected by your device's built-in security (screen lock, encryption).
- Offline sharing uses encrypted peer-to-peer connections — no one can intercept your recipes.
- Online shared recipes are stored on Google Firebase, which uses industry-standard encryption (in transit and at rest).
- We do not store any personal data on our own servers.
📌 13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This privacy policy may be updated if we add new features. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we may also notify you through the app or via an announcement.
